You have got mail!!

Someone told me when i had started my MBA.. that till
the completion of the course i would be married to my
laptop. I dint believe them a bit.. but a few months
down the lane i have started to realize how true it
is.. Just like a wife my laptop has everything in it.
It entertains (Utube,orkut).. looks cute (got her pic
as the wallpaper)..it makes me work (assignmentzzz)..
it makes me think.. it makes me miss my past crushes..
it lives with me.. comes wherever i go.. and makes a
note of all that i do.. and on top all that shuts down
when i least expect it and when i most want it..

Recently I have started to notice an additional
feature in my dell inspiron.. I call it the surprise
wake up.. its a pop up message that reads "You have
got a mail!" I call it a surprise for two reasons.. 1.
You never know when its gonna appear.. and 2. You have
no idea what the mail is about..

Monday morning classes are horrible.. Was trying to
keep eyes open and sleep.. it was like a great battle
between my self control and my senses.. and the
surprise package arrives to save me. You have got a
mail.. within a fraction of a second a thousand
thoughts run in my mind on what that mail could be.. a
few of the guesses i made in that half awake state
were..

is the mail from my bank saying my account has been
credited with @#$@ dollars.. or by some magic i have
got free flight tickets for this christmas..no.. i
want it to be the girl from india asking if i can
marry her.. or is it her dad asking how i had the guts
to propose to her.. or is it my dad blaming for having
such a bad taste..

each surprise mail like this lasts for seconds and
finally when the mail opens.. its usually from
professor about an assignment.. give it a break!! i am
shutting this laptop down....

The next word my professor says.. "Please open your
laptop and go to Yahoo Finance.."

That night!!

Once a year the whole of my state goes into frantic
activity. Its the day of twelfth board exam results.
Every girl or guy you see has the looks of person who
is about to hear his final judgement. Thats what they
have been told all year long and the result that they
get is gonna be their brand name for the rest of their
lives. At the end of the day some are happy. some are
frustrated.But In reality all are fooled.

As like any other person in my country even I had my
day. It was May 31st. Year 2000. At nine in the night
rumours start spreading that results will be out in a
couple of hours in the internet. Internet was not so
popular then in my native place and not many people
had access to it. So I was running around trying to
get access to some site.. think it was
chennaionline.com. That site had never supported more
than 10 users at a time and no wonder the server was
down. Came back home disappointed for not getting to
see the results and was awake the whole night thinking
of what could the possible outcomes be.

I tried hard to evaluate myself in all aspects.. how i
had worked.. where i could lose? I was even thinking
about all the celebrations that would take place once
my results were out. I was so confident or to say that
blinded by confidence that I was sure of getting great
marks and my dream college. My plans were becoming a
long list of endless dreams.. taking friends out..
asking for a bik.. giving tips to juns on how to
study.. But it was not so to be. Destiny was
different. One of the worst nightmares was to become a
reality the next morning.

The results went so bad that my friends had to take me
out to console me. and the rest i forgot what
happened. Everyone around started their chants: we
told u this is a turning point in ur life.. and u ve
missed it.. and they literally meant that i was not
fit for anything else again..

Looking back.. i laugh at those people.. who give so
much importance to what happens in an exam.. and now
the only thing i missed by not gettin good marks was
that the girl who i was to have a crush on was sitting
in the next class.. other than that.. oopss.. dont
wanna say more...

someone ritely said.. what happens to determines 5% of
ur life.. the remaining 95% is decided by how u react
to it.. and now i doubt even that 5% part..
